Youth Group
More Meetings – Per the request of the kids in the Youth Group, we are trying hard to meet every two weeks, rather than once a month. We met at the end of January, watched a slide show from the retreat we attended on Jan 15-17. We also talked about what we heard, learned, and did on the retreat, and what it means to our every day lives.
Our schedule of upcoming meetings is as follows:
Sunday, Feb 28th 4-6 pm
(we will be playing GaGa, among other things…)
Sunday, March 14, 4-6 pm
Sunday, March 28, 4-6 pm
Sunday, April 11, 4-6 pm
Sunday, April 25, 4-6 pm
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper – The pancake supper was held on Tuesday, Feb. 16th and was a great success. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and fellowship and it launched us all into the season of Lent. Thanks to a generous donation of groceries from one of our Youth Group families, our expenses were very small, so we made over $250.00 in profit from this event!
Thanks to everyone who attended! And thanks to all the Youth Group members and chaperones for their help cooking, waiting tables, and cleaning up!
So what is Shrove Tuesday? A little trivia for you…Shrove comes from the old word "shrive" which means to confess. On Shrove Tuesday, in the Middle Ages, people used to confess their sins so that they were forgiven before the season of Lent began. Why are Pancakes eaten on Shrove Tuesday?Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that are not allowed in Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.
Thank You! In the last month, we have received a few donations (from the Women’s Fellowship and from individuals) to support our activities. We thank God for blessing us with such a kind, generous, and loving church family!
